A Fort Lauderdale, Fla., call-center company said Thursday that it would open a new office in Englewood, bringing 500 new jobs.

PRC announced that it would locate at 7630 S. Chester St. in October. The company will begin hiring hourly and salaried employees in mid-September.

PRC's clients include Expedia, Hotels.com, Match.com, British Airways and FedEx. The company, a division of Barry Diller's IAC/InterActiveCorp, has 12,000 employees in 32 call centers worldwide, including the Englewood office.

Most of the jobs will be hourly, with some salaried openings for management positions.

The hourly jobs will pay between $10 and $12, said PRC spokeswoman Alicia Miyares.

Tom Clark, executive vice president of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp., said the jobs were entry-level call-center positions, as "most" of the area's call-center employees are making more money - between $17 and $21 per hour.

"Most of our call-center activity has been along the line of technical support, customer care or financial services," he said.

PRC said it chose Denver because of its skilled workforce.

"Our due-diligence team found that this area is growing," Miyares said. "And it gives us access to a high-quality workforce that matches the skill set we're looking for."

Clark said that Denver is an attractive city for a call center because of its "concentration of connectivity" from broadband providers such as Level 3 Communications, Qwest and Time Warner Telecom.

The mountain time zone is also an advantage.

"You can receive calls as far east as London and as far west as Japan within the same business day," he said.
