PRC, one of the nation's largest providers of outsourced customer service for Fortune 500 companies, announced it's opening an office in Arapahoe County that will employ 500.

The majority of the jobs are call-center positions, although the company also needs to fill higher-paying training and supervisory posts, said Alicia Miyares, PRC's vice president of marketing and communications.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based company won't disclose the expected pay scale because it varies depending on the clients' demands, Miyares said. But local economic development officials estimate the majority of jobs will pay around $8 to $9 an hour.

"These are good entry-level jobs," said Tom Clark, executive vice president of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp. "PRC's a very reputable company that's been around a long time."

The announcement by PRC, which is owned by Barry Diller's IAC/InterActiveCorp., comes about three months after satellite-TV provider DirecTV announced it will locate a customer-support center in Arapahoe County's nearby Tech Center that will create 1,000 mostly high-paying positions that require technical expertise.

"Between the two, we have really diverse types of jobs," said John Brackney, president of the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce.

PRC is moving into the former AT&T building and plans to start operations with training sessions later this month.

The South Metro Denver Chamber provided a small incentive of a 50 percent break on the company's business personal property tax, which is the tax on equipment such as computers and desks.

That exemption amounts to about $5,600 a year, Brackney said.

PRC, which has 12,000 employees worldwide, provides outsourced customer service for companies including FedEx, British Airways and Match.com.

The company also announced Thursday it is hiring 500 in Austin, Texas.
